Trek Up Kilimanjaro

Private

Private Kilimanjaro climbs

Your own group, your own dates, your own pace.

A private climb means the itinerary is set by your party rather than by a schedule. For couples, families and groups of friends it usually costs less per person than people expect, and it removes the single biggest variable on a group climb: everyone else.

A private climb means your party walks alone, on dates you choose, at a pace your group sets. It is not a luxury product — it is a control product, and pace control is what decides how the week goes.

If you are travelling alone or as a pair and the price matters more than the pace, the alternative is joining one of our scheduled group departures instead. The private versus group page works through the trade-off properly.

What you actually get

  • Your own dates. Not a fixed departure calendar.
  • Your own pace. If one person needs a slower day, the whole group has one.
  • Your own crew. Guides, cook and porters working only for your party.
  • Itinerary flexibility within what park regulations allow — an extra acclimatisation walk, a different start time, a longer lunch.
  • A crew who learn your group over the week rather than managing sixteen strangers.

Who it is genuinely worth it for

Couples and families with mixed fitness

The single strongest case. On a group climb the difference between "we all slow down" and "keep up" is the difference between summiting together and not.

Anyone with an altitude history

If you have struggled above 4,000 m before, having the option to rest, take a day differently, or turn a walking day into a shorter one is worth a great deal.

Photographers

Stopping when the light is right rather than when the schedule allows.

Nervous first-timers

Not being the slowest person in a group of strangers removes a real psychological burden that stops some people booking at all.

Groups of friends or colleagues

From about four people upward the cost per head approaches group pricing anyway, so you get control almost for free.

The cost, honestly

Private climbs are priced per person on a sliding scale by party size, because the crew cost is broadly fixed and gets shared.

  • One climber — the most expensive per head by a wide margin
  • Two — considerably better
  • Four or more — often close to scheduled group pricing

So the useful question is not "is private worth it" but "how many of us are going".
