Season

A group climb means you book a place rather than the whole trip. You get the same guides, the same camps and the same food as a private climb, at a lower price per person, because the crew and the park fees are shared across the group.

Most people who join one are travelling alone or as a couple. You do not need to know anybody, and you are not obliged to walk in a line — the pace is set by the guide and the group spreads out naturally within it.

Each departure shows three dates, and they are not interchangeable. Start is the day you begin walking, not the day you fly in — arrive at least the day before. Expected summit is the planned Uhuru Peak date, which is the date the whole itinerary is built around. Gate is the day you walk out. Actual summit timing can still move for weather, pace, altitude illness or a guide's safety call.

Why the calendar has gaps

You will not find group dates in April or early May. That is the long rains, and while the mountain is open and the price is low, the forest is genuinely unpleasant and fresh snow makes summit night harder. We would rather lose the booking than sell you that week without saying so.

Dates thin out in November and December too, for the short rains — though those are far less severe, and a November climb on the northern side is often excellent value. The full month-by-month picture is on the best time to climb page.

Every itinerary on this page also runs as a private climb, on whatever dates you choose. For two or more people the difference in price is often smaller than people expect, and the pace becomes entirely yours.
